John Menadue is the Founder and Editor in Chief of Pearls and Irritations. He was formerly Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet under Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser, Ambassador to Japan, Secretary of the Department of Immigration and CEO of Qantas.

Tower of Babel combines with the Augean Stables (before the clean out)
Great to see the intro. of political cartoon “see-straight-thru the bullshit” kind of header to Pearls and Irritations. When I lived in London’s Chelsea in 1976 I uncovered via a blue plaque that it had been the stamping ground of the great cartoonist and pricker of pomposities Jas GILRAY around the end of the 18th start of the 19th centuries! And so I bought a number of his works – such a long and noble tradition – the political cartoonist!
