The outstanding feature of the current geopolitical age is the laying bare of the lie of Western moral superiority. The world has been dominated, largely through military power, for the last few hundred years by the 12% of humanity who occupy what has been widely described as “the West”. During that period, we have enforced the view on the other 88% that our dominance is justified by the moral, political, military and economic superiority we claimed to possess. Never mind that over that period we have been responsible for the death of hundreds of millions of that other 88% and the immiseration of the rest.
The obedience shown to us has led us to believe our own PR, when in truth the only way in which we were superior over that time was in our ability to commit invasions, wars, subversions and economic subjugation of the “other”. Fortunately, that age is rapidly disappearing into a morally degraded history. The one thing that we can do to redeem at least some small morsel of the fable of Western moral superiority is to finally act with respect to the greatest iniquity of our age, the genocide in Gaza. I’m betting we fail that one too!
