This article makes a good case for the West, under the leadership of the dunder-headed Trump, being self destructively perverse. China simply wants to principles that underlie an increasingly challenged UN to be applied as they were meant to be. National sovereignty and territorial integrity are ones that are crucial to the five principals of peaceful co-existence enunciated by Premier Zhou Enlai in December 1953 and which China has implemented ever since.
These are mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful co-existence. All of these are factually counter to those of the US since the end of the Second World War. For the US these principals have applied only to them and occasionally to an ally or two, but can even been dispensed with in relation to those allies when it suits the US.
Looking across the vast bulk of the world, particularly the 88 per cent of the world’s population outside of the West, those principals seem obviously more attractive than the increasingly perverse and idiosyncratic attitudes of a West led by an idiopathic US.
